BIO
Selteck, aka Hansel to his family & friends has been into the techno music scene since the late 90's. His music differs from those heard around the various clubs in the UAE. Selteck is of Indian origin and currently residing in the UAE. His childhood and teenage years were spent in India and it was there that he got his first taste of techno sounds through friends who were already raving about it. Back then almost all electronic music was classified as techno. Through time Selteck began experimenting with various styles of techno and what you hear in his sets today is the pure sounds of Swedish, Berlin & US techno. Selteck has been greately influenced by artist like Speedy j, Adam Beyer, Umek, Chris Liebing, Marco Bailey the list just goes on and on.....

Q: What's your real name and what's with Selteck?

Q1 A

A: My real name is Hansel Coutinho. Selteck actually originated from part of my name that is SEL and the other part defines the music that I play and thats Teckno :) so SELTECK

Q:How did you get yourself into the Techno scene ?

Q2 A

A: Well actually its a very long story. But since the age of 15 I've put my hands on almost every genre of music there is.You name it and I've touched it from Hip-Hop,House,Trance,Psy and D&B I've touched it all, but for some reason I never really found any connection between me and any of those genres. But once I started experimenting with Techno I just could not stop and have been hooked on to it ever since

Q: Are you a Dj or a Pilot ?

Q3 A

A :) I get asked that question almost every time I play at a venue and its mainly cause of my set up.Its nothing too complex actually but sure does look like a cockpit and is definitely unique in this part of the world :).My setup includes 2 Macbook pros one running Traktor and the other running Maschine an efx 1000 unit 2 high quality sound cards one for each laptop a decent mixer a pair of Kontrol X1's and of course a pair of AKG cans.

Q: So if you say you are a DJ , how come we do not see any regular equipment like turntables or CDJ's ?

Q4 A

A: Well again I've put my hands on all sorts of tech.From turntables to cdj and finally just 2 laptops and midi controllers.Why ? For quite a simple reason I just play bits and pieces of music not actually the whole song. So while those small bits and pieces are being looped and played I start messing around with the actual rhythm & percussion via the Maschine controller. So basically am doing more of a live set rather than a dj set

Q: So what are your future plans?

Q5 A

A: Well my main plan is to start getting into production eventually . But there is still time for that since am giving my self a 4 year time frame to step into the production world. Until then I will strive to bring that true Berlin club vibe into the UAE .
